New Maternal RSV Vaccine - Abrysvo
Abrysvo, a new maternal RSV vaccine is now recommended and available for free on the National Immunisation Program, for pregnant women between 28-36 weeks gestation, to protect their babies from severe RSV disease.
The Abrysvo vaccine works by stimulating the mother’s immune system to produce antibodies against RSV, which will pass through the placenta to the baby. This will provide protection to the baby for up to 6 months after birth.
Abrysvo can safely be given at the same time as other pregnancy recommended vaccines including Boostrix (Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis) and the Influenza vaccine.
Common side effects include injection site pain, headache, muscle pain and nausea.
Please contact our Practice if you are interested in vaccination.
